Looks like more and more people are getting on this LETS KICK SOME GMO BUTT bandwagon. India has charged Monsanto with biopiracy.
An Indian government agency has agreed to sue the developers of genetically modified (GM) eggplant for violating India’s Biological Diversity Act of 2002.
AND
This involves 270,000 organic farmers in America. For too long, Monsanto has been getting away with suing farmers whose crops have become contaminated by Monsanto’s patented genetic traits and chemical materials, and winning. Thankfully, the justice system seems to now recognize the severe error in this, and is now beginning to rightfully hold polluters and trespassers responsible. Monsanto, your days are numbered.
California’s Initiative process is making it possible to mandate that all GMO products sold in California be labeled. It would be a historic first in the US. The time has come for this to happen.
We get the petitions Feb 10 and will be looking to get 800,000 signatures on the petition which would insure the initiative gets on the November ballot. So if you are in California and you see signature gatherers please sign it. It is called California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act .
I have scheduled two workshops to train the signature gatherers. I am telling you this because I would never have imagined myself doing this. Anyone could organize a signature gathering team. And if you only get signatures from people in your neighborhood, or from your community organization, friends or strangers in front of a TJ’s or Whole Foods, it is all good.
There are no small efforts in this department. Everything and anything you do to get this initiative on the ballot is a BIG FREEKING DEAL. I would encourage everyone to contact labelgmos.org and sign up to gather signatures. Someone will contact you get you trained and put some petitions in your hands and you are off and running. I promise you if you get 1 signature on a petition it will make a difference.
O.k. folks that’s it for now.
Will keep you posted.
I totally agree that we do have a right to know… a little weird that this is a battle that we have to face everyday but it is one that needs to happen. I enjoy reading about this.
Thanks. I thought it was quite brilliant of the organizers to take this approach to labeling GMO’s. Since GMO’s can be a very contentious subject, depending who you are talking with, a right to know what we are eating is something we can all agree on and that’s a good thing. Already three other States have introduced initiatives, Vermont, Washington and Oregon. And two other countries, Costa Rica and China have just refused to grow any more GMO crops. It seems the tide is turning. What a good thing you are doing too with getting the word out about Wheatgrass too. We are making a difference. Thanks.
Hi, are you supporting the ballot initiative to shut down California’s nuclear power plants?
You can learn more about it here:

Did you know that radiation from Japan’s nuclear meltdowns in March 2011 was found in the air, milk, water, veggies, etc. in the U.S. ?

GMO’s in food are awful and so is radiation from nuclear power plants!
The California nuclear initiative requires over 500,000 signatures of California registered voters…please spread the link!
Here it is again:

Good luck on both measures!
Yes, thank you Ann. Volunteers are bringing the petitions to other community meetings where the response is much more congenial. One is not so skeptical about a petition if it being offered by someone you know and have something in common with. A little different approach than standing in front of TJ’s and New Frontiers which are being somewhat hostile to signature gatherers. I have to admit though even I try to avoid them. I have signed both the death penalty and Nukes petitions. Our GMO petition will be available on or about Feb 17th. Do keep a look out for our volunteers with the Label GMO tees. Thank you. All the best Ann.
